A roar away from the action
No.of Days: 14
Overview: With a third of India’s forests situated in the heart of the country – Madhya Pradesh – this is easily one of the wildest locations of India. MP’s jungles have a robust population of mammals, avian population and reptiles. Of these, the most famous occupants of the forests are the Royal Bengal Tigers. The intriguing striped cats are the biggest draw for travellers from around the world. Even if you’re not a wildlife enthusiast, consider yourself converted. As this is not just about the tigers, it is also about being in the company of tall sal, deodar and mixed trees that stretch towards the sky. The air is refreshing and the mind feels automatically rejuvenated.
MP has five major and several other national parks where one can travel to spot wildlife – especially the tigers. Earthy wildlife lodges and outfitters complement the 4 wheel safaris with their in-house naturalists and guides. Since Chhattisgarh was carved out of Madhya Pradesh, we know this region and its infrastructure like the back of the hand. Leave all the planning to us, and tune into the rhythm of the jungle. Time dependent, we recommend that you touch Satpura, Pench, Kanha, Bandhavgarh and Panna to get a full round up of all the national parks of the state.
What to Expect: Expect your days to be full of safari time – in jeeps and sometimes even water, and the nights around bonfires. The naturalists and guides are treasure troves of information on the forests and will enthrall you with stories of animals. The choice of accommodations is easy as many of the lodges are located at the edge of the forest, and have an earthy feel – with ample birdsong in earshot. This entire tiger trail is a long loop with road travel between forests. The road journeys are smooth along the edge of green forests and places to stop for a rest.
