In the footsteps of royals
No. of Days: 10
Overview
When the travel acclaim of an entire country is dependent on one particular destination, chances are that it would be crowded with curious travellers and drained of all its charm. But that’s not the case with Rajasthan. Beyond the impregnable forts and stories of dynasties that ruled from them, the state showcases a vibrant living culture. This is the Rajasthan that we would like to show you.
Ancient buildings in Jaipur, made on the basis of ‘Shilpa Shastra’, an ancient Indian treatise on architecture, is the first thing we have on the list. Getting lost in the labyrinth of slim streets that criss-cross behind the main roads is what we recommend along with the staples. Here, a contingent of royal dyers, musicians and unconventional museums unravel the charm of the city further. Similarly, the overarching Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur is complemented with performances of the Brass Band of the fort, feeding hundreds of kites that drop in for lunch at the fort walls and seeing the only broom museum in the country. In Udaipur, we urge you to laze on the rooftop cafes with a view of the shimmering Lake Pichola and then scurry to see the original ‘Best Marigold Hotel’ and sample authentic Mewari food.
What to Expect
The very best of Indian hospitality, whetted over years, can be experienced in Rajasthan. Prepare to be enthralled by grand palaces, forts with legacies and food and shopping experiences of the cities that up the ante for travellers. When you look at Rajasthan beyond the brochures – think, sitting in for an opium ceremony – you will swear off doing the usual. In this trip, we also make you forego the dash in-dash out tenor of travel and help you to immerse in the cities with a focus on slow travel.
